Assessment of Employees’ Performance Appraisal Practice: the Case of Bank of Abyssinia

Abstract: This study investigates the effectiveness of performance appraisal practices at the Bank of Abyssinia, focusing on the perceptions of employees concerning the appraisal process, fairness, job satisfaction, and the impact of cultural norms. The association between performance appraisal practices was examined using descriptive statistical techniques methodology. In this study, quantitative research design was employed. 183 questionnaires distributed and 180 were correctly completed and returned, and a stratified random sampling strategy was used in the research for census sampling strategy. a structured questionnaire with a five-point Likert scale rating system. Using SPSS version 26.0, the acquired data were condensed and subjected to descriptive and inferential statistical analysis. The main finding of the study was a highlights a strong perception of trust in the appraisal system, although concerns about transparency and job satisfaction remain. Notably, the findings suggest that while feedback provided during appraisals is valued, employees do not associate their appraisals strongly with job satisfaction, indicating an area for improvement. The results underscore the necessity for the Bank of Abyssinia to enhance its appraisal practices by focusing on structured feedback, promoting transparency, and linking appraisals to career development to improve overall employee motivation and engagement. The study's limitations include the sample size and reliance on self-reported data, which may affect generalizability. Future research directions suggest the need for longitudinal studies to track changes over time and qualitative approaches to gain deeper insights into employee experiences. Overall, this research contributes to understanding performance appraisals in a banking context and provides actionable recommendations for organizational improvement.

Abstract: This study focuses on the alignment between Zhenjiang’s university professional settings and local industrial development. It examines the structural characteristics of Zhenjiang’s industries and conducts a comprehensive survey of the professional layout of local colleges and universities. In-depth analysis reveals core issues: an imbalanced professional structure and insufficient depth of industry-education integration. To address these, targeted countermeasures are proposed, including strengthening policy guidance, establishing a dynamic professional adjustment mechanism, developing brand majors, and enhancing the transformation capacity of scientific research achievements. The research aims to promote the coordinated development of local higher education and urban industries, and continuously improve the alignment between university professional settings and Zhenjiang’s industrial development needs.

Abstract: The management and disposal of market waste has become an issue of concern to various environmental stakeholders. Due to the potential health risk of solid waste on human and environmental health, the research becomes imperative. The study area is the centre of a commercial city of Akure. The object of this research work was to investigate the key factors contributing to poor waste disposal practices and evaluates the performance of waste management authorities in major markets in Akure, Nigeria. The study adopted a mixed-method approach; data were collected through structured questionnaires administered to 284 (traders and buyers) respondents across selected markets. The findings reveal that irregular waste collection, inadequate disposal facilities, and weak enforcement mechanisms are primary causes of poor waste disposal. Furthermore, the performance of waste management authorities was found to be suboptimal due to infrequent evacuation schedules, insufficient manpower, and lack of community engagement. The study recommends improved funding, stronger enforcement of sanitation policies, and increased participation of private waste contractors to enhance market sanitation.
